QATADID SHARIF OF MECCA: Mukaththir b. 'Isa al-Fulayta, 1188-1197, AR dirham (1.16g), NM, ND, A-1159N, legends al-amir / abu muhammad / mukaththir // al-imam / ahmad / al-nasir (al-Nasir is the 'Abbasid caliph 1180-1125), with the legends on both sides around a central double triangle; always without mint & date and almost always carelessly struck, decent example with most of the legends clear, F-VF, RRRR. Although without mint name, one version may have the mint name Makka (Zeno-182392). The triangle design was also used on the gold and silver coins of the contemporary Ayyubid of Yemen ruler Tughtegin. Same as the example sold in our Auction 48, lot 397 (called A-1159M before I decided to make this version a separate type).
