QING: AE charm (16.55g), 36mm, octagonal with loop as made, e mí tuó fó (Amitabha), trigrams around // along the rim are eight characters an hong mi ba ne ma nà dá, of which the key six characters are as follows: an ma ne ba mi hong in Chinese which pronounced om ma ni pad me hum in Tibetan, all in very crude script, Fine. An interesting charm in that it displays both Buddhist and Daoist (Taoist) characteristics. The Buddhist characteristics of the charm are revealed in the reverse inscription that surrounds this Daoist magic character. Amitabha is a celestial buddha according to the scriptures of Mahayana Buddhism and is referenced on the obverse.
