QING: Dao Guang, 1821-1851, AR palace cash (6.1g), Board of Revenue Mint, Beijing, H-22.584, 28mm, Type A2, West Branch Mint, cast 1821-23, graded 86 by CAG Grading Company, VF-XF. Palace cash were introduced in 1752 for use in the Imperial Palace by guards and eunuchs. These were always of high-quality brass alloy. They were popularly known as gua deng qian (lamp hanging money) or huang gaizi ('yellow covers'). In 1831, during the reign of Dao Guang, orders were given to cease production of palace cash coins.
