QING: Guang Xu, 1875-1908, AE cash (2.98g), Board of Works mint, Peking, machine struck private pattern, light oxidation, lustrous fields, Unc. Many experts in China believe this type was struck privately during the Republican (Min Guo) era. One would have to wonder why a cash coin in the name of the former emperor Kuang Hsu would be struck during the Min Guo period. The luster and strike seems more similar to private mint patterns struck earlier in the United States and in Germany.
