This coin type is known as the "Lohan cash" which is a rough transcription in Chinese characters of the Sanskrit word "arhan" meaning "venerable" and was the name applied to images of the eighteen attendants of Buddha frequently arranged along two sides of the principal hall in Buddhist temples.
