QIUCI STATE: Anonymous, 5th-6th century, AE cash (1.52g), H-10.48, wu zhu // reverse in yet undeciphered Qiuzi (Kucha) script, encrusted as usually encountered, Fine. Qiuci (often misread as Qiuzi) is the old Chinese translation for the Tokharian name of the ancient Buddhist kingdom of Kucha, an important state along the Silk Road from the Han to the Tang dynasty period. It was under the jurisdiction of the Xiyu Duhufu during the Han Dynasty and covered roughly the present-day Kucha County of Xinjiang.
