QIUCI STATE: Anonymous, ca. 5th/6th century, AE cash (1.02g), H-, Zeno-205151 (type 1), Chinese wu zhu and two Kuchean characters both on the obverse; uniface, pleasant example; the version with both legends on the obverse is much rarer than the usual type, which is Chinese obverse, Kuchean reverse, strong VF, RRR. Qiuci (often misread as Qiuzi) is the old Chinese transcription for the Tokharian name of the old kingdom of Kucha, a very important state on the middle route of the Silk Road from the Han to the Tang dynasty period. Qiuzi, one of the numerous states of the ancient Western Region, covered roughly the present day Kucha County of Xinjiang Province. The place was under the jurisdiction of the Xiyu Duhufu of the Han Dynasty.
