ROMAN PROVINCIAL: GAUL: Augustus, with Agrippa, AE as (12.58g), Nemausus (Nîmes), 9/8-3 BC, RIC-158, RPC-524, heads of Agrippa left and Augustus right back to back, the former wearing a rostral crown combined with a laurel wreath, the latter wearing a laurel wreath, IMP / DIVI F // crocodile right chained to palm, wreath with long ties above palm, COL-NEM across field, glossy dark green patina, Choice VF. Nemausus was a Roman colony settled by veterans of Octavian and Agrippa's war against Mark Antony and Cleopatra. The design of the chained crocodile no doubt alludes to their conquest of Egypt.
