IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
ROMAN PROVINCIAL, THRACE: Pautalia, Geta, as caesar, 198-209, AE18 (4.35g), Tachev--, Varbanov-- (cf. 5417ff), bare head right, AV KA … ΓETAC // Tyche standing facing with head left, holding grounded rudder and cornucopia, OVΛΠIAC ΠAVTAΛIA-C, dark patina, a very unusual example, possibly a contemporary private issue, accompanied by collector's envelope, Choice VF, ex Thomas R. Miller Collection.

The obverse design is anachronistic, as it features a youthful, unadorned bust, used on a few types early in Geta's reign as caesar, as well as the abbreviated title of Autokrator (i.e. Imperator), which he was only entitled to use after his ascension as augustus in 211.
