SAFAVID: Isma'il I, 1501-1524, AR larin (5.00g), NM, ND, A-A2588, early style of thick small flan folded over once, struck from regular coin dies with the millsail reverse, VF. This is the earliest style of the larin, probably still struck only at the city of Lar in southern Iran, most likely for trade with Iran via the Portuguese, who established their first settlement in Iran in 1507, on the island of Hormuz.
