SAFAVID: temp 'Abbas II, 1642-1666, AR dirham (2.77g), "Tabriz", ND, A-2650-var, contemporary imitative issue, based on the standard couplet of 'Abbas II, with the Shi'ite kalima reverse, but conforming to the Ottoman dirham standard and fabric of Baghdad under Mehmet IV (1648-1687); Fine, RRR, ex Kenneth A. Bovenkamp Collection. The obverse legend includes the words "bi-tawfiq-i haqq" first used for Safavid coinage in 1644, five years after the 1639 Treaty of Zuhab, which restored Ottoman control in Iraq, including Baghdad. Perhaps some anti-Ottoman uprising occurred somewhere in Iraq, perhaps too insignificant to contemporary historians!
