SAFFARID: Ahmad b. Muhammad, 923-963, AR 1/8 dirham (0.33g), Andaraba, ND, A-1412T, the mint name and the names of the caliph al-Muti' and the Saffarid Ahmad b. Muhammad are all very clear, with ahmad bin muhammad inscribed in the calligraphic style typical of the contemporary Saffarid coins of this ruler, especially the small gold fractional dinars, some surface porosity; unpublished and unique, F-VF, RRR. The calligraphic style of this fraction is typically Saffarid, a style not seen on Samanid or Banijurid coinage of Andaraba. Thus this type might have been struck within the Saffarid territories in honor of the Samanid relationship, but with the mint name Andaraba. The Samanid court poet Rudaki composed a lengthy poem eulogistically praising Ahmad b. Muhammad at this time.
