SAKAS OF MATHURA: Kharahostes, 1st century AD, AE unit (2.83g), Pieper-1285 (this piece), standing Lakshmi, tree to right, wavy line to left, Brahmi legend khatrapasa kharahostasa // Abhiseka Lakshmi standing, watered by 2 elephants, F-VF, RRR, ex Wilfried Pieper Collection. From the consignor: "This Mathura satrap type of Kharahostes is one of just three known specimens! In the evidence of this new coin type this Kharahostes can now be distinguished from another Kharahostes who issued square copper coins and who was a satrap in Afghanistan and a son of Artasa. Both these rulers of the same name Kharahostes are mentioned in the famous Mathuran lion pillar inscription."
