SALERNO: Guglielmo, 1111-1127, AE trifollaro (ramesina) (8.13g), CNI-XVIII p. 320 n° 1 - tav. XVI, Bellizia-88, Travaini-98, Cagiati-66, Sambon-866, D'Andrea-57, W RVX APVLIA, duke on horseback with shield and sword extended forward // PETRVS BEATVS, St. Peter standing, nimbate, a well-executed B has been engraved into the rump of the horse; overall this is a pleasing example of this rare type that we cannot find listed on CoinArchives, Fine, RRR. Guglielmo was Grand Count of Sicily and Duke of Puglia. CNI reports this coin both for Miletus (only the drawing is present in the tables) and for Salerno (in this case the photo is present). Both Biaggi and Bellizia report it to be from the Salerno Mint. In the MEC and in the volume on Norman coinage by Travaini, a certain attribution is not provided but there is a tendency to associate the coin with Salerno. There are two examples in the Sambon Collection, one of which has the legend PETRUS PETRUS on the reverse.
