SAMANID: Ahmad b. Muhammad, 940s-954(?), AR dirham (3.14g), Nishapur, AH343, A-"M1477", in his own name, with the title muzaffar below the obverse field; same style as the gold dinar A-L1477, which is also unique, known only from an example sold by Busso Peus in 2003, partly wavy surfaces, unique (to be A-4609D in the new Checklist), VF, RRR. Ahmad b. Muhammad originally served as governor in Khorasan for the Samanids, but was deposed by Nuh II from the governorship. He soon after rose in rebellion during the last year of Nuh II, AH343, but was quickly defeated, though shortly afterwards was granted the Samanid governorship at Chaghaniyan. Gold & silver coins in his name are known during this brief rebellion, both unique; copper coins are known from the mint of Chaghaniyan, also exceedingly rare. No examples in any metal are recorded on Zeno or CoinArchives.
