SAMANID: Nuh III, 976-997, AE fals (1.50g), Bukhara, AH386, A-1471, citing Ahmad b. 'Ali on obverse, Husayn Sabijabi on reverse, fr. Zeno-34849, Fine to Very Fine, RRR. The name of Nuh b. Mahmud appears in the reverse margin, but only Mahmud is legible on this specimen (his entire name is missing on the Zeno specimen, struck from same obverse die, different reverse die. The identification of Ahmad b. 'Ali remains uncertain, but perhaps he is the Qarakhanid ruler of that name, whose name first appeared on Qarakhanid coins of Ferghana in 384. Kochnev lists copper coins of Bukhara dated 389 and 390 that cite both the Samanid ruler and both the Qarakhanid Nasr b. 'Ali and his brother, Ahmad b. 'Ali.
