SASANIAN KINGDOM: Khusro I, 531-579, AV imitative dinar (3.96g), based on type Göbl-196, jeweler's imitation of a silver drachm of SK mint (Sijistan) of regnal year 27, actual origin unknown, but 16th-19th century seems likely, probably fine gold, mount removed, Fine, R. The only true gold coins of Khusro I are of a totally different design, so as not to be confused with a gilt silver drachm. From the 16th-19th century, Sasanian imitations were popular for jewelry and decorative purposes.
