SHAKYA: Anonymous, ca. 6th century BC, AR 5 shana (6.64g), Ra-522 ff, central pentagonal symbol, which is the state symbol of the Shakya Janapada, with several additional banker's marks, Very Fine to Extremely Fine, S. The Shakya capital was known as Kapilavastu, about 10 miles west of Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, now in Nepal, just a few miles north of the Indian border. These are the earliest coins issued by a state located in modern Nepal.
