SIMJURID: Muhammad (b. Ibrahim), ca. 961-987, AV fractional dinar (0.59g), Nishapur, ND, A-M4608, ruler cited only as Muhammad, no Samanid overlord, with the kalima divided between the obverse and reverse fields, with part of Qur'an verse 9:33 in the reverse margin, mint clear in the obverse margin, VF-XF, RRR. The attribution is tentative; style of Saffarid fractional dinars of the AH360s and 370s (same ornament below the reverse) and related to a fractional dinar citing this ruler by his title Nâsir al-Dawla and the Samanid overlord Nuh b. Mansur, struck at Sijistan and dated AH372 (Zeno-141273).A similar but damaged piece, totally unidentified, was sold in our Auction 29, lot 375.
