SONG: AE charm (52.24g), Zeno-19100 (this example), 72mm, xiang hua gong yang // a possible saint sitting on the chair with a servant behind him at left, a dog lying on the ground, with sea waves at the bottom, two persons with weapons at left, F-VF, RR, ex Singapore Coin & Banknote Auction, 16th April, 2005, Lot 65. The origin of the scene on the charm is unknown, but it comes from some Taoist story. He Lin attributes this item to the "Ben Ming Xing Guan" series, possibly indicating The Year of Dog. Likely issued in the Song through Yuan Dyansties. This pattern was also used on Tang Dynasty charms, but with some difference in design and writing.
