SPAIN: AE medal (60.21g), 1763, Betts-443, Medina-12, Eimer-704, 50mm bronze medal for the Capture of Morro Castle in Havana, Cuba by Tomas Francisco Prieto, conjoined busts right with LVDOVICO DE VELASCO ET VINCENTIO GONZALEZ around // scene of Morro Castle exploding with IN MORRO VIT GLOR FVNCT around and ARTIVM ACADEMIA / CAROLO REGE CATHOL / ANNVENTE CONS. / A.MDCCLXIII in exergue, some strike weakness at the high points, hints of red, plain edge, EF, RR. This medal commemorates the capture of the Morro Castle in Havana by the British in 1762 during the French and Indian War. It is interesting that the perspective is of the losing side, as the two Spanish officers depicted lost their lives in the battle.
