SPAIN: Alfonso XII, 1874-1885, AV 10 pesetas, 1878, KM-677, mintmaster DEM, 1962 official restrike, mintage 18,000, PCGS graded MS67, ex Coin Galleries Auction, February 11, 1987, Lot 549. In 1962 Spain's government mint in Madrid entered into an agreement with a private company, American Investment Trust of Vaduz (Liechtenstein), to produce restrikes of 10, 20, 25, and 100-peseta gold coins using the original dies from Alfonso XII and Alfonso XIII coinage. There are a total of 12 types and these restrikes are considered official Spanish government issues and are catalogued in all major reference guides.
