SPAIN: Civil War, 1 peseta, 1937, KM-2, Cal-9, Asturias y León issue, an attractive lustrous example, PCGS graded AU55. The Sovereign Council of Asturias and León was an unrecognized state in northern Spain during the Spanish Civil War. It was proclaimed on 6 September 1936, and was self-declared as a sovereign state on 24 August 1937, while the region was occupied on 20 October 1937 by Franco's military forces. The capital of the short-lived state was Gijón.
