SPANISH COLONIES: Carlos III, 1760-1788, 2 reales (5.16g), 1787, Kleeberg-87A-M2, brass contemporary imitation, variety with CAROUS in legend, serifs in ordinal joined, mintmark and denomination omitted on reverse, light scratches, clip at 11:30, AG, ex Almer H. Orr III Collection. According to John Kleeberg, many (most?) of these brass counterfeits were made in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1800-11 and 1820-30, and then distributed in New York City. Interestingly, these generally circulated in the United States, not in Mexico (or other Latin American locations).
