STRAITS SETTLEMENTS: Victoria, 1837-1867, AE cent, 1862, KM-6, an attractive nearly mint state example, PCGS graded AU58, ex Almer H. Orr III Collection. In 1830, the Straits Settlements became a residency, or subdivision, of the Bengal Presidency of British India. On 1 April 1867, the Straits Settlements were transferred to the British Colonial Office and became a Crown colony, making the settlements answerable directly to the Colonial Office in London instead of the Government of India in Calcutta.
