SULAWESI: "Sultan Muhi al-Din", ca. 18th century, tin-lead pitis (2.63g), Zeno, masruf / hadha / al-sultan / muhi al-din // adima / khairahu wa- / sa`adatahu, date below tentatively read as 1127, lightly wavy flan, VF, RRR. This is one of the first two examples we have encountered from this ruler (Mahyudin) of an uncertain sultanate. It was found in Bone Regency in South Sulawesi, and the style of the inscriptions is very similar to the coinage of the nearby Gowa Sultanate (Makassar) in the 17th century. We thus tentatively attribute this coin to the Bone Sultanate (Kesultanan Bone), though there does not appear a ruler by that title except for a much later sultan who ruled in 1845-1857.
