SUMATRA: LOT of 16 coins, all of the Jambi Lion-type ca. 11th-14th centuries (cf. Zeno-310220), including a debased silver unit (4g), 10 bronze units (5-8g), and 5 bronze half-units (3-4g), all showing a lion walking left on obverse, and head of lion left on reverse; average F-VF with a few nice VF, all with reasonably clear devices and decent patina, some more fully struck than others; retail value $350, lot of 16 pieces. These coins are examples of a newly discovered type from central Sumatra called Jambi lion coins. Very little is known about their historical background. See Zeno-310216 for a discussion on this type.
