SWEDEN: Karl XV, 1859-1872, AV carolin (10 francs), 1868, KM-716, the obverse displays more cameo characteristics than the reverse and the strike is quite bold, NGC graded MS63. The carolin, a gold coin, was minted during 1868-72, to link the Swedish gold currency to the Latin Monetary Union, formed in 1865. One carolin was equal to 10 French francs (or units of the Latin Monetary Union) and to 7.1 riksdaler riksmynt.
