SYRIA: Islamic State, AR 2 dirhams, AH1437, denomination in center, al-dawlah al-islâmiyyah / khilâfatun 'alâ minhâji al-nabuwwah ("Islamic State / a caliphate upon the model of the Prophethood") in the margin, and "6 grams / 99.9 silver" across field // al-masjid al-aqsâ ("al-Aqsa Mosque") and view of the mosque, date above, all within ornamental border, lightly cleaned, minor deformation at obverse left edge, AU-UNC The Islamic State gold dinar was the de-jure currency of the Islamic State from 2014 to 2019. It is also subdivided into silver dirhams and copper fulûs, and it has its origins in the historical gold dinar. In 2016 (AH1438), one gold dinar was exchanged for 190 U.S. dollars or 91 British pounds. A series of coins made up of gold 1, 2, and 5 dinars, silver 1, 2, and 5 dirhams, and copper 5, 10, and 25 fulûs were released as such. Despite the extensive promotion by the Islamic State of this coinage series, the currency only saw limited circulation in areas under their control. This item was originally produced by an organization associated with acts of violence, crimes against humanity, war crimes, extremism, human rights violations, or similar topics.
