SYRIA: Islamic State, AR dirham, AH1437, denomination in center, al-dawlah al-islâmiyyah / khilâfatun 'alâ minhâji al-nabuwwah ("Islamic State / a caliphate upon the model of the Prophethood") in the margin, and "3 grams / 99.9 silver" across field // minârah dimashq al-baydâ' ("the white minaret of Damascus") and view of the mosque, date above, all within ornamental border, excellent luster, UNC. The Islamic State gold dinar was the de-jure currency of the Islamic State from 2014 to 2019. It is also subdivided into silver dirhams and copper fulûs, and it has its origins in the historical gold dinar. In 2016 (AH1438), one gold dinar was exchanged for 190 U.S. dollars or 91 British pounds. A series of coins made up of gold 5, 2, and 1 dinar, silver 5, 2, and 1 dirham, and copper 25, 10 and 5 fulûs were released as such. Despite the extensive promotion of the Islamic State in this coinage series, the currency only saw limited circulation in areas under their control. This item was originally produced by a regime which perpetrated crimes against humanity, war crimes, mass murder, and other acts of violence. Our firm does not endorse such activities and only offers this item as an artifact of history to further research and civil enlightenment.
