SYRIA: Syrian Arab Republic, 2-medal gold set, 1978/AH1398, SET of Re-election of President Assad medals, Hawk of Quraish // bust of President Hafez Al-Assad facing left, set of (8.00g) and (40.00g) UNC gold medals set in the original case of issue, light surface hairlines, set of 2 medals, R. Presidential elections were held in Syria on 8 February 1978. There was only one candidate, Hafez al-Assad, with voters asked to approve or reject his candidacy. A reported 99.9% of voters voted in favor, with a turnout of 97%. This series was issued by the Central Bank of Syria and struck by the Monnaie de Paris in France. This set is rarely encountered with the original case of issue.
