Scott & Co., The Coin Collector's Journal - Illustrated, Scott & Co., Volumes 4, 5, 6, New York, 1879-81, three volumes in the original matching blind-decorated cloth bindings, gilt spines. Some bindings a bit worn or faded, with occasional tears to cloth. A very good or better set. Scott's Coin Collector's Journal is one of the great nineteenth-century American numismatic periodicals. While publications like Frossard's Numisma may be more entertaining to read, the Coin Collector's Journal provides more solid numismatic information on a wide variety of topics than any other commercial publication of the day, set of 3 volumes, ex. H. F. Bowker Numismatic Library. Howard Franklin Bowker (1889-1970) was a numismatist and philatelist, collecting and specializing in Chinese coins, stamps and banknotes. He created the first bibliography of Western language publications on East Asian numismatics. Wang Yun-wu (1888-1979) was born in Shanghai and was a famous Chinese scholar of history and political science, he was also a politician and invented Shih Chiao Hao Ma, a method of Chinese lexicography also sometimes referred to as the Four Corner Method while he was the editor in chief at The Commercial Press, one of the oldest book enterprises in China.
