Scott, John Walter, Standard Coin Catalogue: Volumes 1 & 2, Scott & Company, New York, No. 1, 1910, Silver and Gold Coins of the World, 184 pages. It has the Territorial private issues of gold coins between 1830 and 1862. Usually, prices were under a few dollars but the Molitor San Francisco in fine condition was already at $50. Civil War 1864 proof sets with all nine pieces were available at $15. Many of the rarest items are left blank since none had come to market in the past 25 years (1885-1910). While the prices will amuse the modern collector, they do contain important information which will be useful, hardcover bound together with No. 2 The Copper Coins of the World Including Lead, Brass and Nickel, to Which has been Added a Full Line of the Roman Emperors. John Walter Scott (1845-1919) was given the appellation "Father of American Philately," he was also a prominent New York based coin dealer.
