Spassky, I. G., The Russian Monetary System: A Historico-Numismatic Survey, Jacques Schulman N. V., Third Edition, Amsterdam, 1967, 253 pages, hardcover. Revised and enlarged English language edition. A historical survey of Russian coinage from earliest times through the Soviet Union. Richly illustrated. The First and Second editions of this book were published in 1957 and 1960 by Educational and pedagogical publishing house as a guide for teachers. The text of the book was supplemented, and the selection of illustrations was improved during the preparation of the Third edition, carried out by the State Hermitage in 1962, and the edition in English, published in 1967 in Amsterdam by the numismatic firm J. Schulman under an agreement with the International Book. In the Fourth edition of 1970, the selection of illustrations is again somewhat expanded and small additions are made to the text. This book is a historical and numismatic essay. Its main task is to rely mainly on the source of numismatics, to talk about how the Russian monetary system arose and developed, to trace the history of coin circulation in Russia from its origins to the present day. The book was first written and subsequently prepared for reprints not at all as a manual for coin collectors, which in no way prevents many numismatics lovers from accepting it and finding it useful for themselves in this form, ex James Farr Collection Library.
