TANG: Kai Yuan, 718-732, iron cash (3.8g), H-14.10h, magnetic, thus containing iron, nail mark left of the hole on the reverse, graded 78 by GBCA Grading Company, VF, ex Dr. Dirk Löer Collection. Kaiyuan Tongbao cash coins were predominantly cast in Sichuan Province where there had been a shortage of copper. There is evidence that iron Kaiyuan Tongbao coins also circulated in Hebei under the Tang dynasty.
