TEN KINGDOMS: Anonymous, 900-914, large iron cash (40.93g), H-15.166, 50mm, yong an yi qian (perpetual peace, one thousand), crudely cast as usual for type, Fine, R. From 822, the You Zhou (within modern Hebei) area enjoyed virtual independence from the rest of the empire. At the end of the ninth century, the Regional Commandant of You Zhou was Liu Rengong, succeeded by his son Liu Shouguang from 911. The histories say that Liu Rengong minted iron coins. We have handled only a few of these rare types and all were encrusted, as is this example.
