IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
TIBET: AR rupee, Kangding, ND (1939-42), Y-3.3, Szechuan-Tibet trade issue, large portrait of the Chinese emperor Guang Xu with collar derived from the British Indian rupee of Queen Victoria // vertical rosette at center, Chinese inscription, si chuan sheng zao ("made in Sichuan"), branches with cusps and flowers around, with weakly struck Chinese and Tibetan countermark li yong lam within rectangular depression, VF. The meaning of most of these marks remains uncertain, but we can presume that they were applied to the coins by local authorities, such as monasteries or dzong dpon (district officials) in order to enforce the circulation of the Sichuan rupees made of low grade silver in a specific area of Tibet.
