TIMURID: Sultan Husayn, 1469-1506, AR 2 miri (1.49g), Astarabad, ND, A-A2437, unusually nice strike for this extremely rare denomination, with beh bud do miri in the obverse center, this being the first we have offered at auction! strong VF, RRR, ex Stephen Album Price List #271. Presumably struck late in the reign, during the financial crisis which erupted after 906/1500. The term miri is a shortened form of amiri, i.e., "of the amir". Two miri would be 2/3 of a reduced tanka of about 2.38g (type #2436), which is known from dated examples 906-910. If one turns the reverse 1/4 to the left, then there is a symbol at the left that closely resembles the number 9, a large pellet to the right, as usual for zero, and another 9-like symbol at the bottom. This is perhaps a secretive date 909, which is appropiate for this type.
