TOKHARISTAN: Yabghus of Baktria, late 6th/early 7th century, AR drachm (3.81g), NM, ND, G-265, Sasanian bust right, wearing winged Nezak-style crown, unread "Pahlavi " legend to left & right, special symbols in the marginal crescents // standard fire-altar & attendants Sasanian reverse, blundered mint & date, struck with reverse die deteriorating in the marginal region, choice VF. This type of Tokharistan combines the long established Nezak-style crown with a portrait derived from Vistahm, who reigned at Rayy 591-597, to which are added wings derived from the type introduced by Khusro II during his 2nd year (592 AD), together with a reverse design also from Vistahm, without any symbols in the reverse margin. This would suggest a dating no earlier than the late 590s, most likely shortly after 700, perhaps maintined at various locations in and around Tokharistan until the 720s or later.
