IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
TRIPOLI: Selim III, 1789-1807, AR 10 para (2.92g), Tarabulus Gharb, AH1210, KM-61, with two-petal flower instead of regnal year above the reverse, bold strike with lightly clashed dies, PCGS graded AU55, ex SARC Auction 47, Lot 359. The issues dated AH1210, although still citing the Ottoman sultan Selim, are believed related to the brief uprising at Tarabulus Gharb by Ahmad II, who held his power for about one year, until overthrown by the Ottoman governor 'Ali Qaramanli, probably in 1211. The 1203 year 10 issues would then be assigned to 'Ali Qaramanli, thus still as regular issues of Selim III, for whom he held the governorship.
