TURKEY: Abdul Aziz, 1861-1876, AR medal, AH1279 (1862), NP-1106, Montenegrin-Ottoman War Medal (Karadag Madalyasi), script above crescent / Turkish flag flying over the mountains of Karadag (Montenegro), a cannon in the foreground, karadag and date 1279 on scroll in exergue, pierced for suspension as usual with original ribbon, Fine to VF, RR.

The war ended with the Convention of Scutari of August 31, 1862. Montenegro was forced to acknowledge Ottoman suzerainty, however the terms were generous because the Ottomans wanted to win Montenegrin goodwill. The borders of 1859 were restored, the Montenegrins were allowed to import any goods, except arms, through Ottoman territory and to rent agricultural lands. Awarded in silver only to the Ottoman Forces and Artillery Brigades commanded by Omar Pasha which defeated the uprising in Montenegro.
