TURKEY: Abdul Mejid, 1839-1861, AR medal (23.61g), AH1271, Pere-1097, Dogan-15, 37mm unsigned silver award medal for the Defenders of Silistra during the Siege in the Crimean War, toughra within laurel and oak wreath // view of Silestra with forts behind and the Danube River in front with Arabic script and date on cartouche at bottom, holed for suspension, lightly cleaned with minor obverse scratches, no loop or ribbon, plain edge, VF. The Ottomans were successful in defending the Silistra fortress against Russian forces that besieged it from May 19 through June 22, 1854.
