TURKEY: Abdul Mejid, 1839-1861, AR medal, AH1271/1855, 36mm, Turkish Crimea Medal, Sardinian issue, awarded to John McIntyre of the Scottish 72nd Highlanders regiment (engraved on edge), tughra above qirim and hijri date, all within wreaths and ribbons // cannon, anchor and mortar on Imperial Russian flag, the flags of the four allies (from left to right, France, Turkey, Sardinia and Great Britain) above, LA CRIMEA above 1855 below, hole at the top as made, F-VF. The Turkish Crimean War Medal (Kirim Harbi Madalyasi) is a campaign medal issued by Sultan Abdul Mejid of the Ottoman Empire to surviving allied military personnel involved in the Crimean War (1854-56). There are three different issues for British, French, or Sardinian personnel, identifiable by the center right flag and the language in the exergue. Due to the loss 22,000 British issues as a result of shipwreck, British awardees were given other medals, many of them the Sardinian type.
