TURKEY: Mahmud II, 1808-1839, LOT of 33 gold rubiye (¼ sultani, also called ¼ findik) dated AH 1223, type KM-608, all with mount removed, with regnal years 7 (4 pcs), 8 (11), 9 (6), 11 (1), 12 (2), and 13 (2), and date obscured by the mount (7); average VF or slightly better; total weight 25.79g; lot of 33 pieces. According to Damani, the fineness of this series was .800, which would mean a total 20g net gold or about 0.643 oz. The actually net gold content might be slightly less, as many of these piece show remnants of mounts that appear not to have been gold.
