TURKEY: Mustafa II, 1695-1703, AR kurush (19.33g), Edirne, AH "1102 ", KM-121.1, Damali-22-ED-G1c, the date 1102 is on the same side as the sultan's name, so it cannot be an old die from Ahmet II, thus either the engraver forgot that the date should be 1106, or more likely, "2 " is a retrograde for "6 ", average strike with some central weakness, cleaned, VF, R. Damali noted a doctorate thesis by Brian D. Johnson, who examined, based on contemporary documents stored at the national archive, that minting equipment was shipped to Edirne in AH1104, but that no minting took place at Edirne until after the accession of Mustafa II in 1106. He suggested that dies dated 1102 reading the name of Ahmet were reengraved with Mustafa, but the date change ignored. This seems very unlikely, as this piece and the Damali illustrated piece show no evidence of reengraving the sultan's name. Thus the error is most likely a simple typo, as suggested above.
