UJJAIN Sidhathomadana, 1st century BC, AE square unit (5.65g), Pieper-795 (this piece), fish-tank from which a water channel is branching & a railed tree at each side, king's name sidhatho(madana) below // Ujjain symbol; extraordinary example in superb condition, gorgeous AU, R, ex Wilfried Pieper Collection. According to the consignor: "The credit for having corrected the earlier reading ‚rathimadana' goes to Prof. Harry Falk. It is fascinating to have a name on this coin now that is reminiscent of the Buddha. The unusual iconography of the coin could possibly also be explained against a Buddhist background."
