UMAYYAD: AE fals (1.37g), al-Mahfuza, ND, A-E204, duriba hadha al-fals bi'l-mahfuza // muhammad / rasul / Allah, no marginal legends either side, the only known issue of al-Mahfuza, before the administration was transferred to al-Mansura, decent strike with the usual porosity and some corrosion spots, Very Good to Fine, RRRR, ex M.H. Mirza Collection. This is the second known fals of al-Mahfuza, which was founded by al-Hakam b.'Awana, the second Umayyad governor of Sind. After a few years, al-Hakam replaced al-Mahfuza with his second foundation, the town of al-Mansura, which became the capital of Sind for more than 300 years. The two locations were on opposite sides of a small lake near the town of Shahdadpur, Pakistan. The only other example of this mint sold in our Auction 34, Lot 303.
