UMAYYAD: AE fals (1.64g), Sarmanjân, ND, A-S205, obverse legend bism Allah duriba bi-sarman(jan) hadhâ with la illah illa Allah on center, reverse legend bism Allah / al-amir / hanzala; first coin discovered of this remote mint, unpublished and unique, VF, RRRR. Sarmanjan was located a short distance north of Tirmidh on the road to Saghaniyan. The style is very similar to the Umayyad fulus of al-Tirmidh (type A-N205). Hanzala was likely the father of Nabâta b. Hanzala whose name appears on fulus of Jurjan dated AH130.
