UMAYYAD: AE fals (1.80g), Qandabil, AH117, A-Q204, kalima divided between obverse & reverse, the mint/date formula in the reverse margin; first known Islamic coin from the important trade town of Qandabil, now identified with Gandawah in the Baluchistan province of Pakistan, south of Sibi and east of Kalat; some light porosity, VF, RRRR. Qandabil was north of the port of al-Daybul along the trade route from the port en route to Iran. The style, calligraphy, and arrangement is identical to the copper fulus of al-Daybul, which are also dated AH117 and it is conceivable that the dies for both mints were engraved by the same die-cutter.
