UMAYYAD: AE fals (2.86g), Ma'din, ND, A-B183, legends la ilah illa / Allah wahda- / -hu muhammad ra- / -sul Allah // baraka li-amir al-mu- / -minin min / ma'dinihi, appears to be the 3rd known specimen, with about 20% flatness - the other two specimens are equally crudely struck, attractive patination, VF, RRR. The phrase "min ma'dinihi", "from his palace", refers to the caliphal palace at the city of Rusafa in central Syria, not far from the modern city of al-Raqqa. The mint name is almost entirely off flan on this piece, but confirmed by an example sold in the Dr. Busso Peus Auction 407, Lot 1350.
